Step 1: Size the Press-Ons
-
Lay out the selected nails in order before you begin the application process.
-
If a press-on is slightly too large, gently file the sides for a better fit. When in between sizes, choose the smaller size for a snugger fit that is less likely to lift.
Step 2: Prepare Natural Nails
Proper preparation is crucial for a long-lasting and seamless look.
-
Trim and File: Trim your natural nails to a short, manageable length and file the edges.
-
Push Cuticles Back: Use the pink stick to gently push back the cuticles, trim and remove any dead skin from the nail plate. This prevents the press-on from sticking to skin and helps it sit properly.
-
Buff: Lightly buff the surface of your nails to remove the natural shine and create a slightly rough surface for the adhesive to grip onto.
-
Cleanse and Dry: Wipe your nails thoroughly with an alcohol prep pad or rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball to remove all oils, dust, and moisture. Do not touch your nails after this step to maintain cleanliness.
Step 3: Apply the Press-Ons
You can use nail glue for longer wear or adhesive tabs for a temporary hold..
Using Adhesive Tabs (for 1-2 days (clear) or 5-7 days (3M) of wear:
-
Warm the adhesive tab sheet slightly with your hands or a hair dryer to increase flexibility and stickiness.
-
Select a tab that matches your natural nail size and apply it, pressing down with a cuticle stick to remove air pockets.
-
Remove the protective film and apply the press-on nail, starting at the cuticle and rolling it down onto the nail.
-
Press and hold firmly for a few seconds.
Using Nail Glue (for up to 2 weeks of wear):
-
Apply a thin layer of glue to your natural nail and a small dot to the underside of the press-on nail. Using a little extra glue helps ensure full coverage, and excess can be wiped away.
-
Align the press-on nail with your cuticle line at a 45-degree angle.
-
Press down firmly and evenly for 15-30 seconds to eliminate air bubbles and create a secure bond.
-
Wipe away any excess glue that oozes from the sides with a paper towel or alcohol pad.
Step 4: Final Touches and Aftercare
-
Shape: File the tips to your desired shape or refine the edges for a smooth look if needed.
-
Avoid Water: Refrain from getting your hands wet for at least one hour (overnight is best) to allow the adhesive to fully set and cure.
-
Protect: To make them last longer, be gentle with your hands and wear gloves for tasks like doing dishes. Remember warm water is your manicures worst enemy!
Step 5: Removal
-
Take pink plastic stick and gently run around nail edges.
-
Soak in a bowl of warm water, dawn dish soap ( just a few drops) and oil (any oil will work and just a teaspoon or so).
-
Use pink plastic stick to slowly loosen off the press on nail.
-
Collect nails file off old sticky pad or glue and save for next use.
